The Commerce City School System is a community of talented administrators, dedicated faculty and supportive families, working in a vibrant partnership that values educational excellence. Nestled in northeast Georgia, approximately 20 miles from the University of Georgia, and one hour from the state capital, Commerce provides students with the advantages of a small town as well as access to educational and cultural opportunities in Athens and beyond in Atlanta.
Commerce Middle School is committed to the belief that all students are capable of attaining high levels of educational achievement in preparation for productive and rewarding lives. We intend to help ALL students reach this goal through the application of their own diligence and effort, and through a school and school district learning climate that responds to individual student academic needs, a curriculum that challenges, and skilled, professional instruction. Commerce Middle School Mission Statement
The mission of Commerce Middle School is to care for the individual needs of each student while preparing the learner for lifelong success. Students will demonstrate mastery of Georgia’s state performance standards. The academic progress of every student will be regularly monitored and systematic interventions will be provided for those who require additional support.
Vision
We envision Commerce Middle School to be a safe and engaging atmosphere in which respect is fostered between student and teacher and all students excel academically in relevant, real-world, research-based experiences.
Values and Beliefs
We value the improvement of student learning and achievement by:
- making student learning the chief priority for the school,
- providing a safe and physically comfortable environment that promotes student learning,
- providing students with appropriate opportunities for success,
- providing a curriculum which incorporates a variety of learning activities to accommodate differences in learning styles,
- involving teachers, administrators, parents, and the community.
We believe:
- that continuous improvement is imperative if our school is going to help students to become confident, self-directed, lifelong learners,
- that students learn best in a safe, comfortable environments with high behavioral standards,
- that students learn in different ways and should be provided with a variety of instructional approaches to support their learning and to strengthen their abilities and with a variety of opportunities to demonstrate their achievement,
- that each student is a valued individual with unique physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs,
- that teachers, administrators, parents, and the community share the responsibility for advancing the school’s mission and maximizing the management of available resources.
